The Purpose of NYC
The Niagara Youth Conference has been the cornerstone program of Niagara's outstanding youth ministry tradition for over 60 years. NYC is a residential conference for youth who are of high school age. Its purpose is to establish a caring, spiritual, participatory, learning community that encourages inclusivity and personal sharing (mitigated, of course, by fun and frivolity).
How do we do this, you ask?
- by creating a forum where youth are free and safe to explore issues of personal relevance
-
by providing an environment that encourages spiritual growth through discussion and reflection as well as offering meaningful and uplifting worship experiences for youth
-
by offering young people an opportunity to explore their faith and develop relationships with other Anglican young people in a residential and experiential environment
-
by offering leadership opportunities for youth as the “young at heart”
-
by offering lots of time to socialize and play together
-
by recruiting, training and supporting staff who are compelling, engaging and enabling witnesses to faith lived and explored
For whom, where, when and how much?
-
for youth ages 14 to 19 years of age (or turning 14 by the end of the year)
-
the staff team consists of 21 dedicated volunteers, ages 18 and up with half of the staff in
-
the age range of 18 to 24 years of age
-
NYC always takes place the week before the Labour Day weekend
We do not want the fee to exclude anyone who wants to participate in NYC so if you need a bursary to enable your participation, please email Christyn Perkons.
